Basics to Bareboat - ASA 101, 103 & 104

Learn to sail a 38-40ft sailboat and get your bareboat certification. This 6-day, liveaboard course aboard a well-equipped Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 379 combines ASA 101, 103 & 104.

This course is for the true beginner! Get your bareboat certification and learn to skipper a mid-size sailboat. You will cruise and live aboard for 6 days on a well-equipped Jeanneau. Our experienced instructor will help you develop the skills and confidence to skipper your own boat or a charter boat.

More and more charter companies require charterers to be ASA 104 certified to charter in the Virgin Islands, Mediterranean, and Croatia. Bluenose Yacht Charters also recommends ASA 104 as a minimum to charter a boat from us.
Books, exams, and instruction are included in the course fee. PLEASE NOTE: Linens and towels are NOT included. Please bring your own food.

This course is available at limited times, please call for further details and scheduling.

After successfully completing this course, you will earn your ASA 101, 103, and 104 Certification. This course will provide you with the essential skills to safely skipper a boat up to 50ft in the coastal waters of New England, the Caribbean, and beyond.

Operating a sailing school requires careful coordination of the number of students, boats, and instructors. Last-minute changes create considerable disruption, which may result in the entire course being cancelled if the student threshold is not met. We request that you let us know immediately if you need to change or cancel your reservation for any reason. We encourage you to take out trip cancellation insurance in the event unforeseen circumstances cause you to cancel.

A deposit of $500 is required to reserve a sailing course or private lesson with Bluenose Sailing School, and final payment is required 30 days prior to the start of the course.

If you cancel more than 30 days prior to the start of the class, we will issue a refund, less a $150 cancellation fee, or issue you a credit for an alternate course. There are no refunds if you cancel within 30 days of the start of the course, unless we can find an alternate person to take your spot, in which case we will issue a 50% refund or a 50% credit toward an alternate course. All course material related costs (e.g. books, postage, etc.) are non-refundable once the materials have been shipped.

Bluenose Sailing School reserves the right to cancel or delay courses due to weather, boat availability, staff issues, or if the student threshold is not met for a specific class. If Bluenose Sailing School cancels a class, we will endeavor to make up the class or will issue a credit for a future course. Cancellations by the school can happen at short notice, up to and including the day of the course, depending on conditions.
